Mid Rivers Rules Seminar

Our first Rules Seminar of the season was a success at Mid Rivers this past Saturday. We had three stations set up for our juniors to go through to become more familiar with the rules of golf. I want to give a special thanks to Ed Schwent and Bob Shogren for spending time with our juniors this weekend. Mr. Shogren and Mr. Schwent had a putting green station and a bunker/hazard station set up so that juniors could go through different situations and learn how to properly take relief from each area. I was in charge of the Teeing Ground and I can say that we have some juniors that really impressed me with their rule knowledge!

I encourage our 18 hole and tour players to come out to the remaining rules seminars that we have scheduled. It is NOT mandatory, but I know you will learn a great deal from spending a couple of hours with us.

Next weekend we have a Rules Seminar at The Orchards Golf Club on March 26th. If you haven't signed up please do so !

It’s nice to finally see the weather take a turn toward the warmer side. February has been a very busy time for the Gateway Junior office. We now have well over 300 members signed up for membership and tournaments are beginning to take shape for the summer. The spring series will begin on March 27th at WingHaven C.C. and I am really looking forward to finally meeting our junior golfers and getting the season started.

We had over 20 total applications for the Junior Ryder Cup Academy. Our committee read through all the essays, letters of recommendations, and achievements our juniors have accumulated while being involved with golf in the area. I can speak on behalf of the committee and say we were excited to see how many quality individuals we have in our junior program! The decision process was a very difficult one and I will be excited when I can announce our boy and girl winner later this month.

You can now login to your account on the junior website and register to play in the Junior PGA Championship Qualifier at Spencer T. Olin as well as the Callaway Junior World Qualifier at Innsbrook Resort. These two events are among the best in terms of quality and depth of field. Make sure you don’t miss out on your chance to play and compete for a spot in these two prestigious tournaments.

The rules seminars and spring events are just a few weeks away. In this months’ newsletter read the fitness article by Barb Michael on stretching and warming up those muscles before starting a round of golf. Also, be sure to check out Bob Shogren’s article on the rules of golf. If you read the rules articles each month, you will be much more prepared to compete and enjoy the summer events!

Summer Registration

Tuesday, February 15th at 6:00 PM all the summer events will be open for sign-ups. Remember, to play in the Summer Tournaments you must first become a member of the Gateway Junior Program. Membership will open online at 6:00 PM with all the Summer Tournaments. You have to wait until registration opens before signing up for any events or membership.

Ok guys you asked for , here you go! We have added a total of 4 events to our spring series!!

**Winghaven Country Club in O’Fallon, MO, will now be hosting the Spring Series Opening Day on Sunday, March 27th. This event will be open to 18-hole players only with divisions for Boys and Girls. The field will be set at 60 players and registration will open on Tuesday, February 8th, at 6:00 pm.

**We are extremely pleased to announce the addition of three events for the Mini-9 and Novice-9 players within the Spring Series. The first event will be held at the Spencer T. Olin Learning Center Nine in Alton, IL, on Sunday, April 10th. The second event will be held at Paradise Valley Golf Club in St. Louis, MO, on April 16th, and the final event will be held at Crescent Farms Country Club’s Colt Nine on Sunday, May 1st. Registration for all of these Mini-9/Novice-9 events will open on Tuesday, February 8th, at 6:00 pm.
Please note that an adult is required to accompany each Mini 9 or Novice 9 golfer during their round.

MINI 9 HOLE: Age divisions for boys and girls 5-6, 7-8; introduces the beginner golfer to tournament
golf. Parents or substitute adults will assist in play and scoring.

NOVICE 9 HOLE: Age divisions for boys and girls 9-10, 11-12, introduces the beginner golfer to
tournament golf. Parents or substitute adults will assist in play and scoring.

We've had 165 juniors register for the spring series so far!! This is an amazing accomplishment when you consider that registration opened only 16 hours ago! This will be a great way for us to kick off the 2011 Season. Its great to see all the interest from the junior golfers and parents in the area! Now all we have to do is get through this blizzard and hope and that the weather will be a little kinder closer to our first event.

We opened up the Spring Series Registration for the Gateway Junior Golf Program at midnight last night and already the events are filling up! A blizzard may be on the way but juniors are excited to get back out on the course and improve and excel in this game we all love.

This blog site will be a way for juniors in the program to follow the news and updates of our tournaments and all the happenings of the Gateway Junior PGA Program. We will have pictures from events, and stories from our members on what its like playing in the program. Stay tuned for a newsletter in the coming week. The newsletter will be full of information including the Summer Schedule, a rules of golf article, swing tips, and much much more!
